Frequently Asked Questions.
Quick answers to what most customers ask before ordering a liftgate.
Which liftgate type do I need?
Depends on your truck and how you load. Tuckaway gates fold under the body — great for box trucks that back up to docks. Railgates run on vertical rails and handle heavy, high-volume loading. Conventional gates are the classic swing-down style. If you're not sure, tell us what you haul and how you load it, and we'll point you to the right one.
Maxon or Thieman — which is better?
Both are solid, proven brands. Maxon invented the original Tuk-A-Way and has a full lineup for everything from pickups to heavy box trucks. Thieman makes rugged, cost-effective gates with a wide capacity range. Honestly you can't go wrong with either — we'll recommend based on your application and budget.
What capacity liftgate do I need?
Think about the heaviest single load you'll lift, then add a safety margin. Capacities run from 1,000 lb (light delivery) up to 6,600 lb (heavy freight). It's always better to have more capacity than you think you need — it's safer and the gate lasts longer when it's not maxed out every cycle.
Can you put a liftgate on any truck?
Most commercial trucks, yes — box trucks, flatbeds, stake bodies, service bodies, even some pickups and trailers. The right gate depends on your body type and frame. Send us your truck info and we'll confirm what fits.
Steel or aluminum platform?
Steel is tougher and cheaper — good for heavy-duty everyday use. Aluminum is lighter, which means a little more payload capacity and no rust. For Florida's climate, aluminum has its perks, but plenty of customers run steel just fine. We'll help you decide.
Do you service liftgates after install?
Yes. Liftgates are hydraulic and electrical equipment, so they need occasional service. We sell, install, AND repair both Maxon and Thieman gates. If your gate stops working down the road, bring it back.
Need help choosing?
Liftgate selection depends on body type, weight capacity, and how you load. Call us — we'll walk you through Maxon vs Thieman, tuckaway vs railgate, and what fits your operation best.
